CV Ismael Hidalgo

Received a B. S. in Pharmacy (honors) from The University of Panama, Panama, in 1979 and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from The University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, in 1986.

He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow (1986-1988) and an Assistant Research Scientist (1989-1990) in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, University of Kansas. At The University of Kansas, Dr. Hidalgo became one of the pioneers in the development of Caco-2 cells as an in vitro model of intestinal permeability. His original paper has been cited over 1,000 times. He was a Senior Investigator in the Department of Drug Delivery, SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals, King of Prussia, PA, from 1990 to 1992 and from 1993 to 1995 was a Research Fellow/Sr. Research Fellow in the Department of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, Collegeville, PA. In 1997 Dr. Hidalgo co-founded Absorption Systems, LP, located in Exton, PA, and became its Chief Scientist. He has given many presentations at scientific meetings and workshops and is author of over 50 scientific papers and book chapters and over 200 abstract presentations. In 2002, Winner, of Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year award in Life Sciences, Philadelphia area. In 2007, recipient of the PolyPops Foundation Award: For the discovery and development of Caco-2 cell as a model of the intestinal mucosa (Shared with Ron Borchardt). In 2007, Certificate “Most cited paper 2005” from Elsevier for manuscript published in: International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 288: 349-359 (2005). To support his research in the area of membrane transporters, he has been awarded Phase I and II SBIR grants by the FDA. He is also reviewer for numerous scientific journals and is has received four patents.
